Review
Netflix is here again with another movie, though they are known for producing quality movies in recent times, I would say this is probably the worst movie they have produced for this year. Well they don’t entirely carry the blame alone, they were other production companies on this joint namely; Point Grey Pictures, Mail Order Company and Scott Pudin Productions. I personally wondered if Netflix made a good move to go into the production of movies rather than stick to the production of series they are known for.
This movie is not the typical Hollywood classical, not conventional but very hilarious, vulgar and a lot of irregularities in it, the lead characters were almost half the time swearing, doing inappropriate things like the abuse of drugs all in a bid to achieve their plans, work or dreams though there were times they actually brought up great ideas in the course of the movie which changed the game.
I want to point this out about the lead character Alex (Adam DeVine), I don’t know why Adam DeVine tries so desperately to impress as a comic actor, he should calm down and do his thing in subsequent ventures and he has it already no need to overdo his performance. I think this struggle with his performance affected the movie.
This film is 141 minutes and 40 seconds in duration, the lighting though it is not one hundred percent was pretty good for an average budget film. I should say this, the villain Mr. Ahmad (Jamie Demetriou), did not show much emotion or passion in his performance it was as if he just memorized his role and acted it out though his acting is average, I feel he should have done better.
The editing of this movie was average and the use of special effects were minimal except for delicate scenes that involved great display of violence which I must say in most cases were totally disgusting.
The control of this movie was dysfunctional and the level of difficulty was too easy to spot which why the movie lacked much suspense, the performance by the actors ranged between average and below average though they were some who tried to go beyond their limit.
The choice of music is another thing to consider, well as a lover of rap and popular music I would say that the choice of music is not bad the song used in the beginning of the movie was dope and I love the selection of songs used in this movie, even popular dancehall musician Shaggy made a cameo appearance and performed his hit single “It Wasn’t Me” as himself and also there were other cameo appearances by other celebrities like Sugar Lyn Beard, Fred Armisen, Joel McHale, Flying Lotus, Steve-O, Donald Fasion, Action Bronson, Chris Pontius, Mark Cuban, Jillian Bell and King Bach.
Another thing to note is the graphics; though they are not great professional standard they are not so bad. The content and themes of this movie contain clichés with little or no introductions; I believe the producers were trying to tell the usual story of terrorism in America but wanted to tell it from the perceptive of three losers unfortunately it went south, though I must point out that the movie highlighted some serious themes like Hustle, the acclaimed American Dream, Sexism, Terrorism, Crime, Sexuality, Racism, Truth and Friendship and they are lessons to be learnt in this movie though it is a total mishit.
My final rating for this film will be forty percent and I should say this it was supposed to less than this particular percentage but for some technicalities I will keep it at that, even though movie does not deserve it.
So this is my opinion on this movie, it should please be treated as such and it is subject to reevaluation, thanks.
